Matua — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 July 2026
Matua is provided by StackFrame.Co, a company registered in New Zealand ("we," "us," "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Matua at xplin.app, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Account information: your email address, used to send you a sign-in link. We don't use passwords, so we don't store any.
- Screenshots you upload: images you send us of a confusing screen, so we can explain what's on it.
- Your questions: any follow-up questions or messages you send about a screenshot.
- Usage information: how many explanations you've used in a billing period, when you signed in, and basic technical information (device type, browser) needed to keep the app working properly.
- Billing information: if you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details directly — we never see or store your full card number.
2. How we use it
We use this information to:
- Generate plain-English explanations of your screenshots
- Send you a sign-in link when you ask for one
- Track your usage against your plan (free trial, monthly free explanations, or unlimited subscription)
- Process your subscription payment
- Improve how Matua works and fix problems
- Contact you about your account or important changes to the service
We do not use your screenshots or questions to serve ads, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
3. Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Matua. Each only receives the information it needs to do its job:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Lovable Cloud (Supabase) | Hosts our database and application | Account and usage data, screenshots |
| Anthropic (Claude API) | Analyses your screenshot and generates the plain-English explanation | The screenshot and question you submit |
| Stripe | Processes subscription payments | Billing details you provide directly to Stripe |
| Lovable Cloud email service | Delivers your sign-in link emails | Your email address |
We don't share your information with anyone else, and none of these providers are permitted to use your data for their own purposes beyond providing their service to us.
4. Screenshots specifically
Because screenshots are central to how Matua works, here's exactly what happens to them:
- Screenshots are sent to Anthropic's Claude API solely to generate your explanation.
- We do not use your screenshots to train any AI model.
- Screenshots you've explained remain accessible in your Matua history (under "Recent" or "Archive") until you delete them or delete your account.
- You can delete individual screenshots or your entire account and its data at any time from Settings.
5. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on infrastructure provided by our hosting partners, which may process data outside New Zealand. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected to a standard consistent with New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
6. Your rights
You can:
- Ask us what information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Ask us to delete your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent to future communications at any time
To do any of this, email hello@stackframeco.com, or use the relevant option in Settings.
If you're in the EU/UK, you also have rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Children
Matua is designed for adults and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Cookies and tracking
Matua uses only the minimum technical cookies/local storage needed to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know via email or an in-app notice before they take effect.
