Matua — Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of Matua, provided by StackFrame.Co ("we," "us," "our") at xplin.app. By creating an account or using Matua, you agree to these Terms.

1. What Matua is

Matua is a plain-language tech-help assistant. You send us a screenshot of something confusing on your phone or computer, and we explain what it means and what you might do next, in plain English.

Matua's explanations are informational only. They're generated with the help of AI and are meant to help you understand and navigate your own devices and accounts. They are not professional technical support, legal, financial, or medical advice, and we can't guarantee an explanation is fully accurate for every situation. Always use your own judgement, especially before entering passwords, payment details, or making account changes based on an explanation.

2. Who can use Matua

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use Matua.

3. Your account

  • You sign in using a link sent to your email — there's no password to remember or lose.
  • You're responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, since that's how you sign in to Matua.
  • You agree to provide an accurate, working email address.

4. Subscription and billing

  • Free trial: New accounts get 7 days of free access to Matua.
  • After the trial: You can continue using Matua for free, with up to 3 screenshot explanations per calendar month.
  • Unlimited plan: For $4.99 USD/month, you get unlimited explanations. This renews automatically each month until you cancel.
  • Payment: Subscriptions are processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your payment method each billing period.
  • Cancellation: You can cancel anytime from Settings. Your unlimited access continues until the end of the billing period you've already paid for; we don't provide partial refunds for unused time, except where required by law.
  • Price changes: If we change subscription pricing, we'll notify existing subscribers in advance.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Matua for anything illegal or to submit content you don't have the right to share
  • Try to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or interfere with Matua's operation
  • Use Matua to generate or request harmful, abusive, or illegal content
  • Share your account with others in a way that circumvents our subscription plans

We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of the screenshots and questions you submit. By submitting them, you give us permission to process them (including sending them to our AI provider) solely to generate your explanation and provide the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. No warranty

Matua is provided "as is." While we work to keep it reliable and accurate, we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every explanation will be perfectly correct for your situation.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, StackFrame.Co is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Matua, including actions you take based on an explanation Matua provides. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act or other law that can't be excluded.

9. Termination

You can stop using Matua and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll let you know of significant changes via email or in-app notice before they take effect. Continuing to use Matua after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any disputes will be handled in New Zealand courts, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
